Tide

2020 | H105 X W105CM | SHIBORI INDIGO-DYED COTTON, BAMBOO, LEATHER

The full moon in Tide is the counterpart to the dark moon in Tide II. This series shows the relationship between presence and absence. The full moon is described in tidal sand patterns that appear in strong contrast to the deep indigo.

In this piece, I’ve used a technique called “mokume” shibori. Mokume is a Japanese word meaning woodgrain. You can read more about this process in Tide II. This piece was dipped eight times to get an intense depth of indigo colour.
