White Heron

2019 | H130 X W70CM | SHIBORI INDIGO-DYED COTTON

Adelaide International Bird Sanctuary National Park – Winaityinaityi Pangkara encompasses over 60 kilometres of coastline adjacent to Gulf St Vincent and is home to 263 unique species of fauna and flora. Each year, migratory shorebirds undertake a long journey to feed on the shores of the sanctuary during the summer months. While paddling around the wetlands and waterways of this part of the Gulf, I can understand why. It’s an incredibly diverse and fertile ecosystem, and we must take care of these areas, as urban development threatens these small birds and their remarkable migrations.

White Heron was shortlisted as a finalist for the 2019 Watershed Art Prize and was exhibited throughout May/June 2019 in the John Harvey Gallery, Salisbury, South Australia. The Watershed Art Prize encourages awareness of water as a precious resource.

It was also on display Feb/Mar 2020 in the Yellow Heart Gallery, Women’s and Children’s Hospital, North Adelaide. The Heart Galleries bring visual art to the community to distract, entertain and inspire, improving the hospital environment.

BioCup featured the piece in their Art Series for 2020-2021.
